#stop_discrimination: presentation of the social campaign of the Parimatch Foundation and “Sports for Everyone”

On June 8, 2021, a presentation of the social campaign “Stop, discrimination. Everyone has the right to sports” took place at PMHUB in Kyiv. The organizers are the Parimatch Foundation International Charitable Foundation and the All-Ukrainian Center for Physical Health “Sports for Everyone”. The aim of the campaign is to combat stereotypes and discriminatory perceptions that sports may be hampered by disability, gender, race or other characteristics.

The introduction was made by Kateryna Beloruska, President of the Parimatch Foundation International Charitable Foundation: “Since the establishment of our foundation, the topic of inclusion and accessibility in sports has been the driver of our activities and is the basis of our projects. But we understand that we alone will not be able to overcome all barriers on the way of children to sports. That is why today we are presenting the social campaign “Everyone has the right to sport” – and thus we are starting a difficult dialogue with society. ”

The Director of the All-Ukrainian Center for Physical HealthSports for everyone” Igor Valitsky stressed that he was very pleased to cooperate with the Parimatch Foundation: “I am sincerely grateful for the implementation of projects aimed at eliminating discrimination in sports and ensuring equal opportunities for all citizens. When “Sports for Everyone” team and I started implementing this project, our main goal was to promote mass sports and eliminate artificial barriers to physical activity for every citizen in any part of the country. ”

Thematic blocks of the conference:

  • disability and no barriers in sports;
  • discrimination on the grounds of race;
  • discrimination due to mental disorders;
  • discrimination and stereotypes;
  • gender discrimination.

Among the speakers of the conference: President of the National Committee for Sports for the Disabled of Ukraine, Presidential Commissioner for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Valery Sushkevich; multiple winner of the Paralympic Games in cross-country skiing and biathlon Svetlana Trifonova; Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine for European Integration Andriy Chesnokov; Chairman of the Ethics and Fair Play Committee of the UAF Francesco Baranca; President of the All-Ukrainian Charitable Organization “Down Syndrome” Olena Bolshanina; trainer and expert of Inclusion & Diversity, co-founder of Biasless Iryna Rubis; bronze medalist of the Olympic Games in rhythmic gymnastics, world champion Anna Rizatdinova; the best female futsal player among women in 2009, multiple champion of Ukraine and winner of the Cup of Ukraine, master of sports Alina Gorobets and others.

On behalf of Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine, all present were greeted by the deputy Matviy Bidnyy: “We are very happy to have launched such a social initiative. Today, the availability of sports is not only a criterion of prospects in the international sports arena, but also an important component of the nation’s health. In Ukraine, unfortunately, there are still problems with both accessibility and discrimination on various grounds. The Ministry is most interested in overcoming this shameful phenomenon. Everyone will go in for sports! ”

The block “Disability and no barriers in sports” was presented by Valery Sushkevich, President of the National Committee for Sports for the Disabled of Ukraine, Commissioner of the President of Ukraine for the Rights of People with Disabilities: “This project tells us: changes are already underway. I have been working on the rights of people with disabilities for many years and I believe that the dominant value of today’s meeting is the combination of state resources and socially responsible business. Such associations are necessary, this is a leading world practice. Yes, the International Paralympic Committee has joined forces with the UN – even at this level. Unfortunately, we have been discriminated against in sports, and people with disabilities have suffered from inaccessibility. And we need to decide how to ensure this in terms of financial capacity, territoriality. I wish everyone to join this great act. ”

The Chairman of the Ethics and Fair Play Committee of the UAF Francesco Baranca strongly condemned racial discrimination: “Unfortunately, these are the problems we face every day. Discrimination and racism in football are very dangerous components, they have a special influence on the part of coaches and players, because they are followed by many fans. For example, many girls would like to join football, sports №1 in the country, they would like to imitate Kateryna Monzul! But they are growing up in an environment where football in 2021 is still perceived as something purely masculine. So today we must all continue to work to avoid any barriers in sports. ”

According to conference moderator Roman Hreba, it is extremely valuable when socially responsible business and charitable foundations support sport, proving that everyone has the right to sport, and we should all oppose discrimination.

The organizers noted that the presentation of the social campaign is just the beginning of systematic work for the right of everyone to play sports. “The next stage is the delivery of our messages on social networks of famous athletes and opinion leaders, as well as outdoor advertising. We hope that it will cover the whole Ukraine. It is very nice that we have received a lot of social quotas for advertising. This support is very important. In the autumn we will take another step – we will start a substantive and effective dialogue with children and their parents. In this way, this social advertising will reach as many different people as possible, ” promised Kateryna Beloruska, president of the Parimatch Foundation, an international charity.
