Serhiy Varlamov and Olexandr Pobedonostsev held “Training with a star” in Mariupol

UHL and Parimatch continue to expand the geography of “Training with a Star” and this time the traditional event was held for the first time in Mariupol. Hockey in the city on the shores of the Sea of Azov appeared only in the 2020/21 season, when the club from Mariupol entered the UHL Parimatch championship, and in October 2020 a new arena was opened – Mariupol Ice Center.

This arena not only hosts the main team, but is also home to CYSS in hockey and figure skating, whose students took part in the “Star Training”. This time the master class was conducted by Serhiy Varlamov, General Director of the UHL, ex-player of the NHL, KHL and the national team of Ukraine, as well as by four-time champion of Ukraine, captain of the national team, UHL sports director Oleksandr Pobedonostsev. Mariupol forward Kyrylo Bondarenko helped famous coaches.

The training was also joined by representatives of local media, who had the opportunity to test their hockey skills and receive a master class from the best in their field.
During the “Training with a Star”, all participants were able not only to train their skills in stick and puck, but also to improve their skating technique, as well as test themselves in a real hockey skill show.

All participants were divided into groups and in different areas trained the force of the throw, the accuracy of the blow, the skill of possession of the puck, as well as tried themselves in breaking the bullet.

UHL Sports Director Oleksandr Pobedonostsev shared his first impressions of the new arena in Mariupol:

“This is my first time in this arena and, to be honest, I am very impressed. It’s great that in a short time we managed to make a great playground and, most importantly, to start a hockey school. That is why this season Parimatch and I could not help but go to Mariupol – it is important for children at the beginning of their career to see what they can achieve.
And although the boys have just started playing hockey, their progress is already visible. So I hope that our “Training with a Star” helped the young hockey players and they were able to learn something new. ”

Parimatch representative Vadym Misiura noted:

“The main task of” Training with a Star” is to interest children, give them the necessary motivation to want to play sports. Of course, it is important for them to have someone to emulate. There are many famous athletes in Ukraine, and we are glad that they are happy to help our project. It is important for children not only to be able to communicate with professionals, but also to train with them to get invaluable experience.

After training, experienced hockey players had a photo and autograph session for young athletes.
