ESports is a new reality
Within the framework of the PM Education platform, a jubilee meeting of sports talk club organized by Parimatch took place.
Experts discussed the current topic of eSports. Compared the virtual world with classical sports, gave examples of their collaboration and analyzed what the future holds eSports and what it can give today live competitions. The participants of the discussion noted that competition between both industries, though existed, but much more success they can achieve if they actively cooperate.
"I am glad to welcome everyone on behalf of the Parimatch brand. This is our fifth meeting. And during this time, more than five thousand people have participated in the educational project, which is dedicated to the development of sports marketing. Now the theme of our meeting is eSports, which has become an indispensable condition for the lives of millions of people, especially young people. There's a future behind that. ESports has its advantages and unique experience. And it is very important to understand how the virtual world can be useful for the development of traditional sport", – said Vadym Misyura, Parimatch representative.
One of the leading experts of the eSports industry, Head of Esports Parimatch Stepan Shulga, told what eSports is today, what is its advantage and what it has in common with live sports:
"ESports brings together a huge number of young people. Coronavirus has shown that everything should be online: sales, marketing, sports … ESports, it's primarily emotions, not computer games. A total of 5-6 games out of tens of thousands are included in eSports. Look at modern youth, many of them do not even care what disciplines are represented in the Olympic Games. They are interested in what is next to them, and this is a computer. Classical sport needs to understand that a young audience plays games. And build your work on the basis of this factor. Review your attitude to SMM, hire good professionals for this position, analyze which of your athletes is already playing. You can not hold once a tournament during quarantine, do not show it and think that "now our club is in eSports".
Stepan Shulga also gave an example of how the French PSG increased the recognition of its brand in China by 20% thanks to eSports. The football club became a partner of the Chinese eSports organization LGD Gaming on Dota 2. PSG team. LGD achieved instant success by winning two prestigious tournaments. Now in China merch logo PSG is popular even with people who are not interested in football.
Vladislav Shovkovskyi, President of the Ukrainian Association of Electronic Football, explained what are the differences between eSports games and simulators and how they are dependent on live sports.
"Sometimes it sounds that sports simulators and eSports are the same thing, but it is not. I will explain on the example of Dota 2 and FIFA. Dota 2 is free, only released updates that change mechanics. In this case, you can play on a computer or laptop. FIFA is paid, you can form teams from former and real football players. Also used for playing FIFA consoles PlayStation and Xbox. FIFA is dependent on live football, it will disappear, and cyberfootball will disappear."
Denys "Phoenix" Yevtusyk, the best player of Ukraine in FIFA according to fifa.gg, supplemented Vladislav Shovkovskyi and revealed the topic as a direct participant of the competition:
"FIFA has its own development vector, it depends on football as a whole.Cyberfootball is not a substitute for football. Although they are competing. In football, many are afraid or embarrassed to play, but at the computer all insecurity disappears. There is its own difference for the viewer. The match in cyberfootball lasts 15 minutes, but the game is more interesting, sharp, with pressing and goals. There will be no such thing in classic football. And you can see in the game legendary footballers of all generations.
At the end of the meeting, the participants noted that although eSports and classical sport develop in parallel, they have something to borrow from each other. Therefore, cooperation and exchange of experience can give both industries a serious impetus for development.
