Expert club Parimatch, an analysis on the start of the national team in the League of Nations
On Monday, September 14 in Kiev in PMHUB Ukrainian Football Association and official partner of the national team of Ukraine Parimatch held an Expert club meeting. This time football experts and functionaries, “Shakhtar” player and national team player Mykola Matviyenko joined also, discussed the topic of the national team, which recently held the opening matches in the UEFA Nations League.
Olexandr Hlyvynskyi, press attaché of the National team of Ukraine, moderated the event. The guests of the Expert Club were the first vice-president of the UAF Oleksandr Demianenko, the coach of the National team of Ukraine (U-17) Serhiy Nagornyak and the press attaché of the head coach of the national team Mykola Vasylkov.
During the meeting, all those present also watched a video with the first team gathering after a long pause, traditional performances of newcomers, who sang songs in the national team and, of course, cuts from matches against Switzerland and Spain.
The event once again showed that experts, journalists and football players have missed live communication, even in compliance with quarantine restrictions.
Representative of Parimatch Vadym Misyura: “The topic of the regular meeting of The Expert club is as relevant as always. We finally waited for the matches of the National team of Ukraine, which has not played for almost 10 months. Unfortunately, following the victory over Switzerland was a defeat to the Spaniards. And, however, this is a valuable experience for the national team, I am sure he will make the national team only stronger and October matches will end with a good result.
The First Vice-President of the UAF Anatoliy Demianenko: “It is very good that we started with the victory in the League of Nations. It is a pity that it was not possible to develop success in the match against Spain. Of course, the goal from the penalty box played its part in the second minute. It influenced us not in the best way, but the Spaniards, on the contrary, added confidence. A lot after this match it was talked about Pyatov. Yes, it would not hurt to let the youth to a place in the lineup, to give them the opportunity to get game practice. But, at the same time, Pyatov is only 36 years old, this is a normal age for the goalkeeper and Andriy’s experience is simply irreplaceable. With the Spaniards rude mistakes he did not have, yes, he unsuccessfully knocked out a couple of times, but he was constantly covered.”
The Footballer of “Shakhtar” and national team of Ukraine Mykola Matviyenko: “This time we again staged a rite of consecration for debutants. I remember singing it myself. It was horrifying (laughs). In general, it’s cool, helps the beginner to relax and feel as a part of the team.
We always try to show our game, no matter how the opponent operates. Yes, the Swiss started quite tough and at first it was not easy for us, but in the second half the situation on the field has already changed in our favor. It’s a pity, of course, that we played without fans. Everyone is waiting for them to be allowed to return to the stands. So far, the only plus is that you can communicate with other players, give hints at least through the whole field, because there is no usual noise of the stadium.
Serhiy Nagornyak, Coach of the Ukrainian Under-17 team: “Switzerland has not just taken the first place in their group in the euro-2020 qualifying. Apparently, our team wasn’t ready for such high pressuring. I would like to note Tymchyk, he debuted very coolly. If we want to be among the tops, we have to be prepared for everything. And that’s why matches with strong teams are so important. Quite different when you play with an opponent who does not give you a raise, as the Spaniards did, but such matches increase our level.
Of course, the national team is just the tip. I saw it especially when I got into youth football. In the same Spain they do not put on the cusp of the whole result. There they raise individuality, which we kill at the children’s level. Individual skill is not to beat five footballers, but to give time to transfer. We have the best players taken by “Dynamo” and “Shakhtar”, there are no other competitors. And in Spain, each club has its own strong school. Where are all our footballers who were promising at a young age? They’re not there. It takes footballers from childhood to learn to work with the ball. Our guys in the national team know how to work with the ball, but when you’re not allowed to raise your heads, it’s a little different. Here in October we are waiting for matches with three world champions, France, Germany and Spain. We have to cling on and do everything to stay among the strongest teams in the League of Nations. And then the level of our national team will grow.”
Press attaché of the head coach of the National team of Ukraine Mykola Vasylkov: “The game with Switzerland was very important, yet the first game, the start of the League of Nations, it is so important to start with the victory. Despite the score of the first half, there was no permutation in the break. We expected the Swiss to start to reduce their momentum. So it happened, there were free zones and our team was increasingly intercepting the initiative. There was another football with Spain, we were forced to experiment with the line-up, because of the same injury to Stepanenko. And in general, it is not easy to play two such difficult matches in such a short time. But this is a very valuable experience and no matter how the draw of the League of Nations ends for us, after its completion our team will become completely different.
The next meeting of the Parimatch Expert Club will be held after the October matches of the National team of Ukraine against France, Germany and Spain.
