Zhan Beleniuk became the first Ukrainian champion of the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo
Zhan Beleniuk became the first Ukrainian to get gold at the Olympics in Tokyo! He had a fight against an old acquaintance Victor Lorincz from Hungary – Zhan himself said yesterday at the broadcast that he had never lost to a Hungarian in his career. And Zhan probably thought that the Olympics final to break this tradition is clearly not the best time.
The victory was certain: a careful start in the first round and explosive activity in the second. The result is 5: 1 and the Ukrainian national anthem was finally played in Tokyo. At the start of the tournament Beleniuk defeated the current European champion Serbian Zurab Datunashvili – 3: 1. In the quarterfinals he was stronger than the Algerian Bashir Sid Azar. In the semifinals, the Ukrainian defeated Ivan Guklek from Croatia – 7: 1.
I am very pleased. Now I do not realize what I did. It was a long and difficult journey. I started wrestling at the age of 9, now I’m 30. Finally it happened. 3 weeks before the Olympics, I was seriously injured. I didn’t know if I would take part in the Games. Only my coach’s faith in me gave me the opportunity to make my dream come true. Thank him for that, – Beleniuk said after the final.
Parimatch congratulates Zhan and all of Ukraine with the first gold medal in Tokyo. We were waiting for it for a long time, and the wrestler worked hard to make the dream come true. Now we have managed to replenish our collection of awards with the most desirable. We are proud!
