The program “Yes, I can!” for children with disabilities has started in Mykolaiv
On September 23 in a sports complex “Nadiya” in Mykolaiv the program “Yes, I can!” was presented by the International Charitable Foundation Parimatch Foundation. Thanks to an inclusive initiative in three locations of the city, regular football trainings for young athletes with mental and physical disabilities have been made. Later, groups for children with disabilities are planned to be established in five more communities in the region.
According to President of the Parimatch Foundation Katerina Biloruska , such training will help children with disabilities find new friends and socialize in society. After all, team game and an inclusive format motivate the students of the program to communicate with other children and form the confidence that children with disabilities often lack.
We see how sports make children happier: they become more confident and find real friends. Many of our students are looking forward to the competition, in particular, because of the friendly atmosphere and communication with child-athletes from all over Ukraine. Therefore, it is very important to give them the opportunity to be in a society that will help unleash their potential, – said Katerina Biloruska.
The presentation of the charity program took place in the format of a festival for young athletes with disabilities. More than 70 children with mental and physical disabilities took part in the sports festival, they will all be able to join the regular inclusive training that has started in the city thanks to the “Yes, I can!” program.
Inclusive trainings in Mykolaiv will be supervised byrehabilitation coach on adaptive football and head coach of women’s football in Mykolaiv region, Yana Manchyk . According to her, thanks to the festival from the Parimatch Foundation and the introduction of an inclusive training program, children with disabilities will be able not only to socialize, but also to develop on a par with their peers.
Thanks to such measures, children get used to, communicate, socialize. And training is always a necessary and useful sport, and, again, communication with ordinary children. If there is an opportunity to develop a child with mental disorders through football, to show them certain exercises, to involve them in competitions, why not? I am always for development. And the program “Yes, I can!” will help children. I have experience, and I understand it for sure, – said rehabilitation coach Yana Manchyk.
The regional partners of the charitable foundation were the public organization “Child’s smile” (Usmishka Dytyny), football academy “Victory”. And also the women’s football club “Nika”, whose football players became volunteers of the festival and helped young visitors to discover the world of football.
According to representative of the PO “Child’s Smile” Svetlana Zubenina , previously coaches usually refused to work with children with mental disorders. Therefore, the inclusive program from PMF finally opens the door to the world of sports for children-athletes with disabilities.
For example, children with autism are not enrolled in sports at all. Although they are very capable of various sports. Fortunately, the Parimatch Foundation has drawn attention to this issue. Such programs are extremely necessary and important, – said Zubenina during the presentation of the program.
The Victory football academy will coordinate future football groups in the Pervomaisk, Voznesensk, Yuzhnoukrainsk, Novobuzhsk and Snihuriv communities of the Mykolaiv region. According to thehead Dmitry Serogodsky the formation of the first groups and preparation for the start of the training process is currently underway. A similar event is planned to be organized in Pervomaisk soon.
Before that, there was nothing in the region. No events or competitions for children with disabilities. And they need to feel capable, despite certain features. And we must be able to work with these children, to socialize them. These kids can! And we will try to prove it through sports. Together we will reach the main goal – to socialize the students of the program and show that they are capable of success, – said the head of the football academy “Victory”.
The presentation of the charity program “Yes, I can!” was visited by Tetyana Zhukovska, director of the Invasport Regional Center for Physical Culture and Sports for the Disabled . She assured that such initiatives can unleash the potential of children with mental disorders and help them develop.
We have many examples when children could not count or write, but were able to develop socially in society through sports. There are even examples when people have won their place in life, become honored masters of sports. We definitely need to work with these children, – said Tetyana Zhukovska.
The charity program of the international charity fund Parimatch Foundation has received support and recognition not only from the parents of young athletes with disabilities, but also from local authorities. In particular the chief of department for physical culture and sports of the Mykolaiv city council Iryna Bondarenko declared the readiness of the city council to provide its own specialists and informationally support the initiative “Yes, I can!”.
For us it was the first such sport event. I am sure that the city council will always support this initiative. I hope a similar event will take place in 2022. In the meantime, we are ready to continue to actively cooperate, help with organizational issues and share the experience of our coaches, – added Bondarenko.
In Mykolaiv trainings for children with disabilities on a constant basis will take place at once on three locations. The Parimatch Foundation team is currently recruiting. Anyone can sign up for a trial workout. For this you need to fill out the form , indicating the age of the future athlete, as well as a convenient day and time for football.
