Oleksandr Khyzhnyak became a silver medalist in boxing at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo
Ukrainian Oleksandr Khyzhniak won silver in the final of the Olympic boxing tournament in the category up to 75 kg. Khyzhniak lost sensationally by knockout from Brazilian Hebert Sousa. Sousa is a bronze medalist of the 2019 World Cup, silver medalist of the 2019 Pan American Games.
Khyzhnyak confidently won two rounds – all judges gave him the victory. And continued to win in the third. But he missed the lucky punch from the Brazilian and ended up in a knockout. The judges quickly stopped the fight, not allowing the Ukrainian to recover.
In the semifinals, Khyzhnyak defeated Eumir Marcial from the Philippines. And the Brazilian boxer in the semi-finals by a separate decision defeated the ROC representative Gleb Bakshi.
I really wanted to win. Now it is difficult to comment on the final match. Probably still need to work to earn a gold medal. I will continue training, Paris is ahead, – Khyzhnyak outlined his own plans after the match.
Despite the annoying and unexpected defeat, which shattered hopes for a gold medal for Oleksandr and the Ukrainian national team, we congratulate our athlete with an important Olympic award. It is a pride when the Ukrainian flag is raised in Tokyo and the gold medal is sure to come.
