Liudmila Luzan won bronze in the final of the canoe single at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo
Ukrainian Liudmila Luzan won bronze in the final of the Olympics in Tokyo in single canoe sprint in the distance of 200 m. She showed the result of 47,034 . The gap with the leader was +1,102. The Ukrainian lost only to 19-year-old American Harrison, who won both the last World Cup, and 11-time world champion from Canada Vincent Lapointe.
In the final Luzan came out of 1st place in her race. The discipline of canoeing first appeared at the Olympics – previously medals among women were played only in kayaks.
Canoeing is not the first sport Lyudmila did. She spent 10 years in gymnastics, fulfilling the standard of the master of sports of Ukraine. But anthropometry did not allow her to achieve serious goals, too tall as for gymnastics.
After the announcement of the results, Luzan literally exploded with happiness:
It seems to me that I am sleeping, that it is a dream. I can’t believe it. I’ve gone to this Olympic medal for so many years. Thank everyone who believed in me and supported me. Thanks to those who coached me. It’s just incredible. We came to this medal together. This is my first Olympics. I am sure that gold awards are still ahead of me.
At the 2020 Olympics, Liudmila still has a chance for a medal in a team with Anastasia Chetverikova and single in the 500 m – her crown distance. Her bronze is the 10th medal in the history of Ukraine in canoeing and kayaking, and Luzan won the 12th medal of Ukraine at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
